Common Causes of Hip Pain
Chiropractic for Hip and Knee Pain – A Natural solution to relieve and manage hip and knee pain.
The hip joint supports the entire upper body and is responsible for not only stability but also strength and locomotion. The burden placed on the hip joint can be the root of many different causes of hip pain including:
Tendonitis: Inflammation of the tendons (fibrous bands of tissue) that connect the gluteal muscles in your buttocks to the hip bone. Tendinitis typically develops because of muscle imbalance. It could be from a lack of activity, crossing your legs, or even sitting on a wallet.
Overuse injury: When you walk, run, or perform repetitive activities such as squatting or bending, weak hip and buttock muscles can tighten and irritate the iliotibial (IT) band — a long band of connective tissue that runs from the knee to the hip. It merges with the gluteal muscles to stabilize the leg.
Tight muscles in the buttocks and hip: If the gluteal muscles and IT band are too tight, they pull at the humerus bone where they attach, which causes pain on the side of the hip.
Lower back problems: Because the hip joint is a mobile joint that is connected to other bony structures in the area, lower back problems can also lead to pain in the hips. Related conditions that can cause pain in one or both hips include:
- Disc herniation
- Spinal stenosis
- Compression fractures
It can sometimes be difficult to determine where hip pain is coming from as hip and lower back symptoms may overlap.
Can chiropractic treatment help with hip pain?
Depending on the cause of your hip pain, chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy and exercises could help. At Grandview Health Partners our doctors of chiropractic can work to determine the source of your hip pain. We will create a personalized treatment plan that could include chiropractic adjustments, exercise therapy, posture advice, stretching, massage, coordination with other health practitioners, and more. Treatments will aim to reduce inflammation, relax any existing muscle spasms, strengthen weakened muscles, and improve the mobility of the joint.
Multiple studies have found that chiropractic adjustments are effective in relieving sciatica, a common cause of pain in the hip and lower back. Cases studies have also suggested that chiropractic can relieve pain associated with sacroiliac joint dysfunction and Piriformis syndrome, which both frequently result in hip pain. Some patients with hip osteoarthritis have also benefited from chiropractic care. Natural treatments of hip pain can allow patients to avoid the costs and risks of surgery and drugs.

I went for hip and knee problems and had adjustments done. I was very pleased with the chiropractors, they explained everything and helped me with my problem. They had a good deal at that time as well. The only reason I stopped going is that we moved away from the city of Chicago but I would highly recommend Grandview Health Partners.
